Public Art Metro
The Metro system in Montreal is very different from what I'm used to in Toronto. Much smaller, narrower cars but nicely painted, for the most part, on the outside. Rather than running exclusively on steel tracks the subway train in Montreal uses a series of tires -- presumably to let it pick up speed at a much faster rate, something it seemed to do well. The tires certainly make one heck of a noise as the trains race in and out of the stations though!
Something I particularly liked about the metro stations in Montreal was that most had significant public art installations, at least in the stations I saw. Take this one here for example, the big backlit stained glass image hanging over the tunnel entrance is quite a sight. Toronto should be learning from Montreal in this regard!
