Cavalcade III: The Rink

Cavalcade of Lights Series - "Cavalcade III: The Rink"
Shannon and I had the chance to go and see the opening ceremonies for the Calvalcade of Lights on November 24th. I got a few nice fireworks photos and one of the rink. The next few days will be dedicated to sharing these photos with you all.  You are looking at the ice rink that is a fountain and pond by summer in city hall square, called "Nathan Phillips Square".  You might recognize the rink as the pond in this photo I posted last summer of the square: http://sparklite.shutterchance.com/photoblog/Freedom_Arches/

I shot this handheld at ISO800 so it's a bit noisy.

This was one of the photos I was hoping to get in time to include in the Healthy Communities issue of the Ontario Planning Journal -- I have the cover image again this month with this image. As for the above picture (that i'd thought could go on the inside somewhere) I just missed the print deadline to be able to suggest it.

About Cavalcade (from the City of Toronto website):
The 41st annual Cavalcade of Lights sets Toronto aglow with a month-long calendar of spellbinding events including spectacular fireworks, sparkling lighting displays and a one-of-a-kind holiday tour
of Toronto's picturesque neighbourhoods.

I like it. It makes me feel like I'm right there in the action. And suitably unsteady on my feet.
Iain Myrans: Ha! most everyone is on ice. If I were out there i'd be one of the slow moving un-blurred people in this photo wink
great shot and hand held, you'd not had a drink thengrin
Iain Myrans: Haha! no. I just realized looking at the EXIF now that it was at 1/3rd sec. I didn't do too badly! wink Thanks for the comment Tim!

I like the movement and frenzy in this photograph and makes me feel as if I am in the midst of it. Wondering if you have tried this as a B&W?
Iain Myrans: No, but this might be wonderful, you're right. I'll give it a try smile
