photoblog image In Motion at Queen and Bay

In Motion at Queen and Bay

An articulated streetcar rumbles accross the intersection at Queen and Bay Streets in Toronto. I closed the aperture to f/22 to slow the exposure down as much as possible and then panned with the front of the street car as it moved along the road thus keeping the front of it in focus while the rest of the image has a motion blur.

PP: Curves, ( NO blur was applied in post )

Whoa, lovely motion shot. It feels like the bus is coming out of the blur

Very, very good! One day, hopefully, I'll crack this skill too, but each time I try it I seem to stop the camera in mid-panning. daft isn't it?

This picture makes the bus seem to be moving quite quickly, there's a fabulous sense of movement.
It's a lot easier with a point and shoot than an SLR i've found (although i managed with an SLR in this case but it took many tries) since you can keep the subject centred at a fixed point in the optical view finder at all times since there is no mirror flipping up and away blocking your view. As for the movement those Streetcars can get moving at a good clip if there's no traffic to block them smile
