photoblog image Port Land Silos

Port Land Silos

The Ultra-Wide Series

Another in the ultra-wide series. This image was also shot at 10mm. These large silos are right accross the street from the Quantex Technologies building I shared with you all yesterday.

PP: I did do some post work on these. I liked the warm rusty-colour of the concrete that was caught in the light. I desaturated all channels but red and yellow. Otherwise this image is exactly as it was out of the camera.

P.S. the colours are for VisualVault

Really diggin' this one great use of the desat. Love that the sun is just behind the clouds making them glow.
hey sl,

i really like the effect of the desaturation on the shot. the desaturated sky is awesome and really picks up the tones in the silos. love the way the light falls in this shot.

great shot Iain -- the tones and focal B&W is perrrrfect for this shot. You seem to have mastered the ultra-wide series already!

Wah! 10mm! Was this taken with the Canon 10-22mm lens? Yesterday's shot didn't give such a "wide" impression. But in this one you can start to feel some of the distortion. I like the colours too.
Iain Myrans: Yep. I believe it was the 10-22mm that we used. VV rented it from Vistek here in Toronto for the weekend, and as I say, he was kind enough to let me shoot a number of frames with it. Thanks for your comment.

Interesting...this is the 10-22 that Sam on "a daily dose of imagery" uses/or has used? Very cool.
That's a great way to use a wide lens.....
The colours are for me? wha? I don't get it..

Yes it's the Canon 10-22, on a Canon 20D... Sam at DDOI uses a 10-22 on a Rebel XT, so almost the same setup, and definetly the same lens, only he owns his, and I don't have the money for one right now, so I rented this one that Sparklite and I used.

Cool shot, again, I have almost the same one, you sure you didn't steal my camera? oh rite.. you did... no wonder... How did the one from the base of the silo's turn out? or did you not shoot any from there?

Iain Myrans: Oh when I put this in the cue I made my descriptive font all coloured since I know how much you like it -- not the colours in the photograph.

I did some from the base of the silos, one is okay. Nothing that screams amazing though from that vantage point.

While VV rented a fun ultra-wide I just rented a really sweet all purpose olympus lens. So not as much fun, no, but I got some lovely sharp and richly coloured images out of it.

Geeze that shot would have worked if the camera had been in manual. You can see dithering caused by anti-aliasing blinn speculosity on the dormer side of the shaft. Additionally significant reduction in the vaporized fluvial effervescence has occurred which manual would have compensated for.
Iain Myrans: quite.
