photoblog image The Old Hotel

The Old Hotel

An old hotel oposite the lighthouse that has been closed for decades. In its day it was one of the ritsiest hotels on the great lakes. The family that operated the hotel, or a branch of it anyway, still owns the property and are trying to restore the building. I liked the warm glow of the sun on the old woodl. It is a shame about the plywood though I guess.

It is a bit boring, i'll be honest. But I didn't have much time to scrape something together today. I do like it for the colour tones though.

Boring? hell no tongue lovely colours and I like the reflection of the house w/ the sunrays in the water. It's like a postcard.

Okay, I gotta Q. The water, it's texture... do you PP it or it's how it was captured? It's soo layered and wonderfully textured, me like.
Iain Myrans: No the image was capture pretty much as is. All I did was a white-balance off the shaded left side of the building. I didn't even do a curves adjustment on it. So nope, no PP on the water.

Boring? Surely you jest. (and no I'm not calling you Shirley) You captured a wonderful old building in gorgeous lighting. I can just imagine what it was like in its heyday with lanterns strung up all over the grounds and boats pulled up to a massive dock and people with cocktails mingling about. It tells a story of what once was and if they do get it restored what might be. Boring? I THINK NOT!!!
hey sl,

ok, so you say this is a boring shot. well, if you are looking for excitement, you aren't going to get it here. however, not all shots are meant to stir the soul in such a riveting fashion. photos are categorized, and i would put this into the serne, nostalgic category.

within the context of its category i think that this shot is brilliant! the lighting and the colors are simply magnificent. i love the historical context in which you framed this shot.

I think it is a very intense shot, the golden color of the house, the rocks and the in the water is a great contrast to the sky in he back, nice

I hope you have lots of more boring shots in you archiveĀ…

I like the colour of the lighting from the sun. It brings out a more homely effect to the old building.
Very nice color tones - Like also the reflection on the see with this deep blue.
Bravo !

See.. now you've gone and done it... First the blueberries, now this... You took a picture of the GCSCPS (Galactic Cow Secret Cow Protection Service) secret headquarters! I can't help you any more, you are on your own now... I recomend you destroy all the evidence as quickly as possible, charter a shuttle to Krylon 4.. it's outside the reach of the GCSCPS and the people there are quite friendly, and very well armed (they have 7 arms actually...) They can probably help protect you. Good luck!

Iain Myrans: Thank you for the advice. I had no idea! Fellow shutterchancers. I may be on Krylon 4 so I'll be sure to send you photos of an alien planet unless VV says that's also against Krylonees law or something wink
