Steel

This is from a neat little city parkette I must have walked by a million times and yet never noticed. It is a space commemorating one of the founding members of the united steel workers union I gather and there is a jet that throws water quite a way into the air at the centre of it and then these steel beams that protrude from the ground in a display of public art. It's a very unique little place right on Toronto's famous Bay Street. Ironically they all display the first letter of my first name as well. : )

Taken June 10, 2006 on a whim as I was walking by and the nearby fountain caught my attention for the first time ever and pulled me into the park. This was more just a quick snapshot and since it was from this weekend I thought it was appropriate :)

PP: Curves (crush), A minor shadow restore. It probably could use a bit of a gama drop, just slightly too but I only noticed that once it was posted.

Great industrial feel. It definitely has a certain rhythm to it. Just curious, have you tried it in monochrome?
Iain Myrans: No, I like the red and green too much. In my mind this is def. a colour shot. Plus the rust on the iron in spots gives it a nice texture I feel. But that's just my opinion smile

I like the dappling of light over the beams and in the trees behind them, it makes for a neat effect. The contrast of the red and green against the steel is visually appealing as well, and I like how all of the 'I's seem to form a labrynith pattern too. smile

I see what Carolyn means, it does sort of look like a maze! Interesting shot, and quite nicely lit. I'm not sure I agree with you about the colours though... The reds and greens in the background are nice, but the whole problem is that they're in the background and stealing attention away from the 'I' beams. If you managed to get a 50-50 balance of 'I' beams and coloured background in your frame, then I think colour would be good.
Iain Myrans: Interesting point I've tried it since in B&W and I find the beams seem to blend in too much and they loose a bit of definition. Maybe i'll play with it and repost it in a few days in B&W if I get a chance. There are a few photos in the cue already but I'd be interested to see what everyone thinks : )

lovely shot. not sure about what I think about the colours.. see what you mean but i keep thinking about what it'll look like in BW. nicely done though..
I don't see enough tones in the beams, so I doubt if B&W would work unless you want to go for something more abstracty.
Otherwise a weird but interesting shot.
